Is it Purslane or Portulaca?  Both are low growing plants with pretty flowers that make great ground cover and great container plants.  How do they differ?  Purslane has a variety of colors but only show their flowers for the mid part of the day.  Their flowers are singles and will last all Summer and Fall until the first frost. Portulaca has large, showier flowers, that last only eight (8) weeks and their leaves are needle shaped.  The Garden Center carries both of these plants so when planning, determine what is more important to you:  showier flowers or color all season long.  Like what you see?  Please join us on Facebook for more great plants, arrangements and tips.
